Wir schreiben das Jahr 1597. Die Joseon-Dynastie steht seit sechs Jahren unter dem Beschuss der japanischen Armee. Da man nicht mehr lange standhalten kann, wird Admiral Yi Sun-Shin zum Oberbefehlshaber der Seeflotte ernannt. Er soll einen vernichtenden Schlag gegen die japanische Marine, die unter dem Befehl von Admiral Todo steht, unternehmen. Mit nur 12 Kriegsschiffen und einer kleinen Armee furchtloser Kämpfer, muss Yi in einen ungleichen Kampf gegen 330 schwer bewaffnete japanische Schlachtschiffe ziehen.
